Why People Aren't Sharing Your Podcast

Word of mouth drives nearly 70 percent of podcast discovery. Which means the most powerful growth strategy available to you costs nothing and happens in conversations you're not even part of.

Sharing doesn't happen passively

Most podcasters publish and hope. They put the episode out, share it once, and wait for word of mouth to take over. But sharing almost never happens organically.

It happens when something is so specific and so useful to one type of person that hearing it makes them immediately think of someone else who needs it. That's the mechanism.

Specificity is a sharing strategy

The most shareable episodes aren't the ones with the widest appeal. They're the ones that speak so directly to one type of listener that someone can't help but forward it.

When my content makes someone feel like it was made specifically for them, they become my most effective marketing. They work for free, and they're more trusted than any ad I could run.

Get your audience involved

People share things they feel ownership over. A poll that shapes an upcoming episode, a question I ask listeners to weigh in on, a contest tied to my content. These aren't gimmicks. They're invitations to participate, and participation creates ownership.

When's the last time someone shared your episode without you asking them to?
