The Audience You Actually Own

Every platform I've built on can change the rules on me. My email list can't.
The problem with rented land
Social media reach is borrowed. Algorithms shift, platforms evolve, and the audience you spent years building can become unreachable overnight without any warning. Most of us know this and still put nearly all our energy into platforms we don't control.
Your email list is different. When someone gives you their email address, you have a direct line to them that nobody else manages. No feed. No algorithm. No throttled reach.
What most podcast newsletters get wrong
The mistake isn't having a newsletter. The mistake is treating it like a press release. New episode out now, click here. Nobody signed up for that.
A great podcast newsletter feels like a personal note. An insight that didn't make it into the episode. A question worth sitting with. Something valuable enough that missing it would feel like losing something.
How to make it work
Capture emails inside the episode itself, not just in the show notes. When someone is listening, they're already engaged. That's your moment.
Stay consistent. Same day every week. Same format. Be the email someone looks forward to rather than the one they skip over.
